SOUTH DENNIS - Born at the lighthouse on McNab's Island in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Gerry's family moved to Hartford, Conn., in 1928 where he attended Hartford and Wethersfield schools. He was the son of Richard and Mary Scallion, and brother to Roy and Ronald, all of whom predeceased him.He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy (1943-1946), serving during World War II as an armed guard on convoy duty on Liberty ships.
